Freedom for Girls Program
Freedom for Girls is an awesome project that is supporting thousands of girls
in Kenya and is now reaching beyond our borders to neighboring countries,
helping girls have the opportunity for an education!

Through the Freedom for Girls Program, girls are provided with undergarments, sanitary napkins
and hygiene education. During every distribution, the girls received a health education session
that includes: the menstrual cycle, personal hygiene, HIV prevention education and a demonstration
of how to use the sanitary towels and dispose of them properly.
If not for this program’s assistance, many girls would be absent up to five days of school a month
due to lack of protection during their monthly cycle. HEART partners with Rotary and Lions clubs
in both Kenya and US. Other organization partners distribute the undergarments and give basic
hygiene education. Girls are enabled to stay in school full time.
We are enhancing girls' participation in education.
Program Successes
HEART and the Rotary and Lions District Committee has distributed these packets to over 50,000
by the end of 2010. A huge achievement!
Procter and Gamble donated enough sanitary towels to HEART in 2010 to supply 17,000 Kenyan girls
with a year supply of Always pads, HEART and Rotary and Lions added the panties and teaching manual
plus did the packaging. It was a great partnership! Thank you Procter and Gamble!
Soroptimist International has taken special interest in this project, and collected 12,000 pairs of undergarments for girls in impoverished Kenyan villages. Following this generous effort, Michael Jordan matched this number giving HEART 24,000 pairs of panties to distribute in 2007.
HEART has partnered with the Rotary and Lions clubs to buy the sanitary napkins at a reduced rate
of $5 for a year supply for each girl.
Opportunities For You To Help
