WEEP is an orphan prevention initiative that empowers women in the advanced stages of AIDS. Operating in impoverished areas across Kenya, WEEP identifies HIV+ mothers who have been widowed or abandoned by their husbands and commits to providing them with holistic care. It also ensures that their children have the resources to attend school. Once physically stable, the mother is taught a trade at the WEEP center where she becomes self-sufficient. |

These children, mostly raised by elderly grandmothers, do not have access to education because they cannot afford school uniforms. The children in the KFS program have excelled by posting impressive improvement and/or high grade scores. When she’s older that’s all she’ll be qualified to do.”

| 6. Youth Empowerment Project (YEP) | |||||
![]() |
YEP works with youth via seminars, rallies and soccer events. The program allows youth to openly discuss issues related to sexuality, substance use and the impact of the choices they will be asked to make. Often, youth in Kenya do not have access to accurate information about HIV/AIDS prevention and the impact of individual behavior on the spread of disease. Through these events, youth are able to discuss topics that their culture has never before allowed. Kenyan youth are found to be hungry for truth and an understanding of their options.
