Who We Are
Empowering Women. Transforming Generations.
A Christian nonprofit transforming the lives of women and children in Kenya through holistic care, economic empowerment, and the hope of Jesus.
Our Story
HEART (Health Education Africa Resource Team) is a Christian, faith-based humanitarian organization empowering vulnerable women, children, and youth in Africa to thrive beyond HIV. Founded in February 2000 by missionary and nurse Vickie Winkler, HEART was born out of a desire to respond to the suffering of HIV-positive mothers in Kenya.

What began with a handful of volunteers has grown into a movement that has impacted thousands of lives. With offices in both the U.S. and Kenya, and the support of compassionate partners around the world, HEART continues to bring healing, hope, and lasting change—one household at a time.
Our Mission
HEART and our partners are empowering the women, children, and youth of Africa through strategic interventions that promote sustainable health, education, discipleship, and economic strengthening as a Christian, faith-based organization.
Our Vision
Empower vulnerable women, children, and youth of Africa to thrive beyond HIV through holistic health and wellness programs.
